Calculating your carbon footprint
An individual's carbon footprint is the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) that someone releases into the atmosphere as a result of his or her lifestyle. Measuring your carbon footprint is the first step to taking action against global warming and allows you to correct some of your consumption habits.
A few figures about CO2 emission benchmarks:
- A one-way trip from London to New York by plane emits more than 1.4 tonnes of CO2;
- Six trees can absorb 1 tonne of CO2.
